Polyoxymethylene (POM)

Polyoxymethylene (POM)

Polyoxymethylene (POM) impresses with its outstanding chemical properties, making it heat-resistant and insensitive to temperature fluctuations. It has very low moisture absorption and provides excellent electrical insulation. POM is also known for its impact and abrasion resistance as well as its excellent sliding properties. These remarkable properties make POM ideal for a wide range of applications in the automotive industry, medical sector, packaging manufacturing, and mechanical engineering. The most important processing method for POM is injection molding, but extrusion, blow molding, and machining are also common methods.

There are two main types of polyoxymethylene (POM):

  • Homopolymer (POM-H): Slightly more crystalline, with higher density, hardness, and strength.
  • Copolymer (POM-C): Offers higher impact and abrasion resistance as well as better chemical resistance, but at a lower melting point.
